Chapter 88
Michael decided to call it quits after bagging the wild boar.
"This should be enough for us. If you guys want to keep hunting, go ahead. I'm gonna go find Isabella," Michael said, heading out of the hunting grounds.
"Hold up, Michael! One wild boar? That's it? Let's go for some deer and rabbits too," Scarlett said, trying to keep him from noticing Isabella was missing.
"If you want to keep hunting, be my guest. But I'm out. This is getting boring," Michael said, frowning as he brushed past Scarlett and walked away.
Scarlett watched him leave, her fists clenched tight.
"Are you sure that bitch Isabella went outside the hunting grounds?" Scarlett asked Ember.
Ember nodded. "Wren took her out personally. Don't worry, this forest is huge and crawling with wild beasts. She won't make it out alive."
A cruel glint flashed in Ember's eyes.
Scarlett's plan was to use this hunting trip to lure Isabella deep into the forest. Her friends were in on it too.
Ember set fire to Austin's barn to distract him. Then Wren used a blood-stained cloth and Michael's phone to trick Isabella into thinking Michael was in danger, leading her into the forest.
Everything was going according to Scarlett's plan.
"Good, let's see how a dead woman can compete with me for Michael," Scarlett said with a cold smile.
After leaving the hunting grounds, Michael carried the wild boar and searched for Isabella.
Suddenly, he saw Austin, his face covered in soot. Michael frowned and asked, "What happened to you?"
Austin wiped his face with a towel and said angrily, "My barn caught fire out of nowhere. I'm always careful about fire safety. I even checked the wiring, and everything was fine. It must be one of my competitors trying to burn my horses."
A sense of unease gripped Michael, and he asked urgently, "Where's Isabella?"
Austin pointed toward the kangaroo enclosure. "She should be there, watching Megatron and Optimus Prime fight."
Michael didn't care why the kangaroos had those names. He dropped the wild boar and ran to the enclosure, but Isabella was nowhere to be found.
"Where's Isabella? Didn't I ask you to keep her safe?" Michael's eyes were bloodshot with anger as he glared at Austin.
Austin started to panic too. "I told her not to wander off. Wait here. I'll check the surveillance."
Austin hurried to the surveillance room, and Michael, taking a deep breath, followed him.
But when they got there, they found the surveillance had been tampered with.
"Fuck, am I being targeted?" Austin slumped into his chair, holding his head.
Michael kicked Austin's chair over, sending him crashing to the ground. "If anything happens to Isabella, you're dead meat!"
He pulled out his phone to call for help.
Just then, Wren, covered in blood, came running over. "You need to save Ms. Taylor! She's in trouble."
Hearing Wren's shout, Michael rushed over and grabbed her by the collar. "What happened to her?"
Wren, terrified by Michael's fierce look, trembled as she said, "My gun ran out of bullets, so I went to the warehouse to get more. Ms. Taylor said feeding the animals was boring and wanted to go to the hunting ground with me. While we were hunting, we found a broken fence. Ms. Taylor insisted on exploring outside, and I couldn't stop her, so I went with her. We ran into a wild boar, and it charged at us. We got separated."
Michael's eyes narrowed as he stared silently at Wren.
Wren felt the pressure mounting, causing her to tremble with fear.
"You're lying! Isabella would never have the guts to leave the hunting grounds! If you tell the truth now, I might let you go," Michael's cold voice whispered in Wren's ear.
Wren swallowed hard, her eyes instinctively darting to Scarlett.
Scarlett was also nervous, but she glared at Wren, signaling her to stick to the story.
Wren bit her lip and shook her head. "I'm not lying, I'm telling the truth."
Michael's gaze turned icy. He pulled out his phone and called one of his subordinates. Shortly after, a convoy of vehicles approached. When they stopped, Jerry stepped out of the first car and walked up to Michael.
"Mr. Williams, I've gathered the team, ready to enter the forest to find Mrs. Williams at any time," Jerry said respectfully.
Michael pushed Wren towards Jerry. "In 10 minutes, I want to know the truth out of her. I don't care what methods you use."
Jerry nodded and had two people drag Wren away.
Wren struggled frantically, but the two strong men gave her no chance to break free. "I'm not lying! I'm telling the truth!"
Wren screamed desperately, pleading for Scarlett to help her, but Scarlett was already intimidated by Michael's imposing presence.
Finally, Scarlett bit her lip and decided to plead for Wren. However, as soon as she approached Michael, he pointed the hunting rifle at her.
"You brought these two women here. She lied to me. Are you in on this? If I find out you had anything to do with this, I won't let you off either," Michael's icy tone was like a volcano on the ocean floor, ready to erupt at any moment.
Scarlett was too terrified to speak.
Meanwhile, Isabella was still calling out Michael's name in the forest.
"Michael, where are you?" Isabella used her dagger to push aside the bushes in front of her, stepping deeper into the forest.
As the surroundings grew darker, Isabella suddenly realized that Wren was gone. To make things worse, when she tried to reach Wren with the satellite phone, she found it was broken!
