Chapter 422
A schemer always had a backup plan, especially when dealing with a sharp woman like Carol.
Carol never bought into Joe's love talk, and Joe didn't either. A senior leader in a department wouldn't just fall for a guy she met for the first time, no matter how good-looking he was.
Both of them were just playing a game, waiting to show their cards at the last moment and then start looking for an edge.
As for the cozy scene before the truth came out, that was just a bonus.
After leaving the apartment, Carol made a call. She needed someone to check if Joe was telling the truth.
Soon, Carol got a call back, and a slightly raspy voice came through the phone.
"Yeah, we've had some new faces around here lately. Looks like your little boyfriend was right," the guy on the phone said.
"He's not my boyfriend, just a decent plaything," Carol corrected.
The guy on the phone didn't expect Carol to be so blunt, so he went quiet for a moment.
Instead of continuing that topic, he said, "Tell your plaything we can work with them, but all the infiltrators have to go. We can't let them mess up our plan."
"How much longer do we have to wait for our plan to kick off? I'm getting bored," Carol said, sounding a bit helpless.
The guy sighed. "We have to wait for the right moment to take out Paxton and the other top execs. Plus, I think someone on our side has turned on us."
Carol frowned. "Who do you think it is?"
The guy shook his head. "I don't know. The whole situation feels off. Maybe 'betrayal' isn't the right word. Maybe this person was always a plant."
"Didn't the old leader get rid of all the moles?" Carol asked, still frowning.
The guy smirked. "Don't forget who the old leader was working with. How could he have gotten rid of all the moles? There are always slip-ups."
He let out a long sigh. "The time is almost here. When it comes, it'll be our chance to bring the family back."
Carol smiled bitterly. "I didn't expect Ms. Taylor to get this far. In my original plan, she would've needed more time to take over these three companies, but her husband messed everything up. Now she's moving too fast, and I'm worried it'll make some people suspicious."
"Suspicion is fine, at least we have some help now," the guy said, trying to sound reassuring. It seemed like things were still under control.
"Alright, hang up. Someone might be listening in. Don't forget to tell your plaything what I said," the guy said before hanging up.
Carol looked at her phone, sighed, and then headed back to the apartment.
She was on her way to find Joe.
Joe had just wrapped up a call with Mike and was about to head to the bathroom when the door swung open, making him jump.
Carol walked in, her eyes locked on Joe.
Joe's face went pale, shaking his head frantically. "What do you want? I mean, I have great stamina, but I can't keep going like this. I'm totally out of energy."
Joe felt his legs go weak.
Carol looked at Joe with disdain. "You can't even satisfy me. You're really useless."
Joe's eyes widened, and he shouted at Carol, "What? Six hours! A full six hours without stopping! My balls is almost flat! Doesn't recharging take time?"
Carol scratched her nose, a hint of embarrassment in her eyes. She was indeed a bit thirsty.
Carol waved her hand to change the subject. "Alright, I didn't come here to talk about that. I need to have a phone call with the guy behind you. I have something to tell him."
Joe hesitated. "Wait here, I'll go set it up."
Joe grabbed his phone and went to the balcony to make a call, dialing Jerry's number. After all, this was the time when Michael and Isabella were probably sleeping. He didn't dare disturb Michael's rest.
"So you're disturbing my sleep? Damn it, do you know how busy I've been lately? I finally get some shut-eye, and you wake me up! You damn bastard!" Jerry shouted, clearly pissed off.
Jerry, woken from his sleep, was furious. Joe was equally annoyed.
"What's with all the yelling? I'm just trying to help Mr. Williams here. All I want to know is if he's sleeping right now," Joe snapped back.
Jerry took a deep breath before saying, "Is it possible that when your little lover mentioned a phone call, she didn't mean right now but a time when he's available tomorrow?"
Joe was stunned for a moment, suddenly realizing that Carol only said she wanted to talk to Michael on the phone, not necessarily right now.
"Damn it, I must have been scared by that pair of scissors," Joe muttered.
"What scissors? What are you talking about? Did that woman threaten you with scissors? Damn it, she should cut off your dick! You idiot!" Jerry guessed the truth instantly and cursed at Joe.
Joe was initially angry but then smirked. "At least my dick still work. What about you, my friend? Your dick are fine, but you've never had a chance to use it."
Joe taunted Jerry for a bit, then hung up and turned off his phone.
Jerry was stunned for a moment, then became furious, trying to call Joe again but couldn't get through.
"Damn bastard, if I catch you, I'll ruin your dick!" Jerry roared at the air, unable to sleep.
The enraged Jerry directly called Mike. "Control your subordinate, you jerk! If he harasses me with calls again, I'll make sure you all pay for it!"
