Chapter 191
Isabella was visibly taken aback when she heard that the flowers were from Joseph. Her colleagues also felt the name sounded familiar but couldn't quite place it.
"Joseph? Why is he sending me flowers?" Isabella frowned.
The security guard shrugged and pointed downstairs. "I don't know. Maybe you can ask him in person, he's still downstairs."
"I'll go see him now." Holding the flowers, Isabella headed downstairs. As soon as she stepped outside, she saw Joseph.
Joseph was leaning against a white sports car, dressed in a teal casual outfit, with a fresh smile on his face, looking radiant.
"You said you'd call after court, but it's been days and I haven't heard from you. So, I decided to come find you," Joseph said with a smile as soon as he saw Isabella.
Isabella had planned to ask Joseph about the flowers, but his words left her momentarily speechless.
"I'm really sorry, I've been so busy that I forgot about it. Thank you for your help last time," Isabella said with a smile.
Joseph waved his hand dismissively. "Never mind, I was just joking. Consider the flowers a congrats on your win. How about dinner tonight?"
Isabella thought for a moment and then shook her head. "I'm sorry, Mr. Davis, my husband has already prepared dinner for tonight. I'll have to take a rain check on your invitation."
Joseph raised an eyebrow in surprise. Few people ever turned him down, which piqued his curiosity about Isabella's husband.
"Could you tell me your husband's name? I'm curious about who could be more charming than me," Joseph asked with a smile.
Isabella shook her head without hesitation. "Sorry, I don't want to disclose his information for now. I'm afraid the media will disrupt his life."
Isabella was very aware of the nature of the four top families. If she revealed anything about Michael to Joseph today, he might leak it, and soon all the four families would know.
Joseph looked a bit disappointed. "Oh, come on, you really can't have dinner with me? We haven't seen each other in nearly 20 years."
Isabella shook her head again. "Forget dinner. My parents have turned themselves in, and that's just the beginning. I'll be way too busy."
"Alright, looks like there's no chance then. Your husband really keeps a tight rein on you," Joseph said with a hint of regret in his voice.
Isabella laughed and shook her head. "He trusts me completely. It's just inappropriate to get close to other men while I'm married. I don't want any misunderstanding."
"Wow, you're really loyal to your love," Joseph sighed.
Isabella thought for a moment, then joked, "I'm probably being followed by the press already. Having dinner with me would put you right in the middle of it. You wouldn't want that kind of attention, would you?"
Joseph laughed as if he had heard a joke. "Do you think people like us are afraid of the press? Those gossip hounds are insane, always wanting to make up stories about me. They'll spread rumors no matter what. If I get close to any girl, they'll gossip. If I don't, they'll say I'm gay."
Isabella was amused by his words, laughing so hard she almost doubled over. "You're hilarious! But seriously, I don't want any drama with you. It always happens-I get close to a guy, and some woman starts targeting me. So annoying!"
Joseph found Isabella's words intriguing.
"So, your husband's got a jealous ex or something? Seems like you have rivals wherever you go," Joseph joked.
Isabella thought about Scarlett-that troublemaker from Aurora Continent. She wondered if Scarlett was still ticked off and if she'd heard about what Isabella's been up to.
Isabella shook her head, pushing thoughts of Scarlett aside. Scarlett was no longer a threat; there was no need to worry about her.
Seeing Isabella shake her head, Joseph assumed she didn't want to talk about it and didn't press further.
"Since there's no chance for dinner, I guess I'll head back..." Joseph was about to leave when he suddenly noticed a small black speck flying towards his eye and then into it.
"Damn, my eye itches," Joseph said, grimacing as he covered his eye.
"What's wrong? Do you need to go to the hospital?" Isabella asked, grabbing his arm with concern.
Joseph shook his head. "No need, probably just a bug that flew into my eye. I can rub it out."
Joseph scrubbed at his eye, tears welling up, but that darn bug wouldn't come out. It was driving him crazy.
"Hold still. let me check your eye for the bug and blow it out," Isabella said, holding Joseph's head and gently pulling his eyelid to look for the bug.
Soon, she found the bug. It had died from Joseph's rubbing and was stuck to his lower eyelid.
"Don't move. I found the bug. I'll blow it out now," Isabella said before starting to blow gently.
Joseph stayed still, feeling the warmth of her fingers and the breeze from her breath.
Unbeknownst to them, a group of people were secretly taking photos of them with their phones.
From the angle behind Isabella, her head completely blocked Joseph's face, making it look like they were kissing.
