Chapter 192
Behind Isabella, a group of colleagues excitedly held up their phones, capturing the moment. Everyone's face was lit with excitement.
"I finally remember, he's Joseph Davis!"
"They look so close! Who was the idiot that said Ms. Taylor's husband was a driver? She is so beautiful and talented; how could her husband be just an ordinary driver?"
"The idiot you're talking about is probably John! He said Ms. Taylor's husband was a driver last time he was here."
"Alright, forget what I just said. But now it looks like Ms. Taylor's husband is Joseph!"
"Both of them are from wealthy families! Oh my God, I'm so jealous of Ms. Taylor. Two rich guys? Ugh, I wish that were me! Who would I pick?"
The colleagues hid behind doors and windows, chatting non-stop. Among them were Madeline and Odette.
Madeline coldly glanced at the girl daydreaming. This girl was actually fantasizing about being pursued by both John and Joseph. How ridiculous! What was she thinking? Had she ever taken a good look at herself in the mirror?
'Madeline watched Isabella's retreating back, her eyes blazing with resentment. "It's all luck," she seethed. "Born into privilege. You have no talent to justify your superiority. These marriages are all about alliances, not love!' Madeline thought, staring at Isabella's back, her eyes burning with jealousy.
Odette's eyes also burned with jealousy. "That two-faced bitch already has Joseph. What's she still hanging on to John for?"
"Are you sure it's Ms. Taylor who's been chasing after John? Isn't it the other way around?" Juliet shot Odette a disgusted look.
"You bitch, what gives you the right to talk to me?" Odette, furious, raised her hand to teach Juliet a lesson.
However, just as Odette raised her hand, Madeline grabbed it.
"The last person who fought in the company was transferred to Evernia. Do you want to go there too?" Madeline glared at Odette angrily.
Odette remembered the tragic fate of Madeline's previous assistant and fearfully retracted her hand.
After scolding Odette, Madeline turned to Juliet.
"Looks like Isabella hasn't taught you any manners. If you've got nothing better to do, I'll find something to keep you busy," Madeline said coldly.
Juliet swallowed nervously, looking at Madeline, but soon she raised her head and bravely met Madeline's gaze.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Eve, but Ms. Taylor told me to only follow her orders and no one else's. So, you have no authority over me," Juliet said courageously.
"You bitch, how dare you disrespect Ms. Eve? Have you forgotten your place?" Odette pointed at Juliet angrily.
Juliet glared at Odette. "Have you forgotten your place? We're both assistants. You're the assistant to the deputy director, and I'm the assistant to the director. I think my position should be higher than yours. What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"
"I can't stand this anymore. Just you wait. I'm gonna teach you a lesson after work," Odette said menacingly.
"What's going on? Are you threatening her?" Isabella's voice rang out behind them.
Juliet, seeing Isabella, excitedly called out, "Ms. Taylor, you're back. These two were badmouthing you behind your back."
Odette didn't expect Isabella to return so quickly, and Joseph was already gone.
Odette jumped out and questioned, "Isabella, since you already have Joseph, why are you hanging on to John?"
Isabella coldly glanced at Odette. "If you can't see straight, I know a good eye doctor. When have I ever shown any interest in John? Isn't he the one always bugging me? I've told him a million times I'm married and to leave me alone. But he won't take a hint. Maybe I should get a dog leash and tie him up."
Odette's face turned red with anger after being scolded by Isabella.
"Ms. Taylor, don't be too smug. We know exactly how you beat Ms. Eve last time!" Odette said with a mocking smile, her eyes filled with disdain.
Isabella was a bit taken aback. Could it be that Odette already knew Kevin was always following his wife's opinions?
But who cares if Madeline and Odette knew? Isabella earned Kevin and Gabrielle's praise with her own skills. She won fair and square. So why was Odette strutting around with that smug look on her face?
Before Odette could even finish hinting at something inappropriate between Isabella and Kevin, Madeline gave her a sharp kick under the table and shot her a furious look.
There was no evidence of any improper dealings between Isabella and Kevin. If they spoke out now, Isabella might sue them for defamation. Madeline had already lost one assistant; she didn't want Odette, her new assistant, to be transferred to Evernia or fired. That would be a huge humiliation for her!
"Isabella, you should manage your assistant better. She's a bit rude," Madeline said coldly, glancing at Juliet.
To steer Isabella away from Odette's suggestive comment, Madeline swiftly changed the subject to Juliet.
Juliet was angry. Why was Madeline always targeting her, a mere assistant?
Juliet looked at Isabella, hoping she would stand up for her. Isabella's words, however, left Juliet stunned.
"Juliet, let me ask you something. If a dog bites you, would you bite it back?" Isabella asked with a smile.
Juliet shook her head in confusion. "Of course not. I'm not a dog. How could I bite a dog?"
Isabella's smile widened. "Exactly. So next time, if a dog bites you, remember to defend yourself with something like a stick."
