Chapter 103
When Isabella and Michael got back to their mansion, they were shocked to find someone waiting for them.
Inside, Kenna was sitting on the couch looking pretty down, leaning on a cane. Across from him was Scarlett, and next to her was a middle-aged woman who looked a lot like Scarlett-probably her mom.
Isabella's mood took a nosedive when she saw Scarlett. Michael seemed to have a hunch about why Scarlett was there. He gently guided Isabella to sit on the couch next to them.
"Don't say anything. Just watch," Michael whispered in Isabella's ear.
Isabella nodded, and they sat on the nearby couch, holding hands.
Scarlett's eyes flashed with jealousy when she saw how close they were.
Scarlett was supposed to come the next day, but she couldn't wait to set Isabella up, so she dragged her mom, Lyanna Patel, over today.
Kenna looked at Isabella and said, a bit reproachfully, "Isabella, why didn't you tell me about the danger you faced yesterday? I thought it was just a wild boar, but I didn't know you were actually set up!"
Isabella glanced at Scarlett in surprise. Was Scarlett here to apologize and admit her mistake?
Lyanna, a stunning middle-aged woman, got up from the couch and walked over to Isabella.
"I'm really sorry, Isabella. I'm Scarlett's mom, Lyanna. I apologize on her behalf. Scarlett doesn't really hang out with outsiders, so she's kinda naive and got taken in by those two bad bitches. But please believe me, she wasn't the mastermind behind this," Lyanna said, looking genuinely pained.
Isabella smirked inwardly. 'So they're blaming Scarlett's two unlucky friends? No way those two would dare do this without Scarlett's go-ahead.'
At this point, Michael stood up and said to Kenna, "Dad, Isabella didn't tell you because of the relationship between our families. She knew you and Scarlett's elders were once friends, so she didn't want to upset you. She specifically asked me not to tell you."
Kenna looked at Isabella with appreciation. "Isabella, you're so thoughtful. Michael is lucky to have married you."
Isabella blushed and replied politely, "Dad, you're too kind. It's just what I should do."
Scarlett clenched her fists tightly. The more affectionate Michael was towards Isabella, the more she hated her.
Suddenly, Scarlett noticed a stern look directed at her. She looked up to see it was Lyanna.
Lyanna was sharp. She understood that Michael bringing up the family ties was a warning to Scarlett. There were still some connections between them, but if Scarlett kept targeting Isabella, those ties would eventually break, and they'd become enemies.
"Even though Scarlett wasn't the mastermind this time, she should still be punished for her mistake. This is our way of apologizing to Isabella. I hope you can accept it," Lyanna said, handing a document to Isabella with a sincere expression.
Scarlett felt a wave of anger seeing Lyanna being so humble, and her hatred for Isabella grew even stronger.
'Why? Why would you give such a valuable thing to this bitch!' Scarlett fumed internally, instinctively reaching for her bag where she had a packet of drugs ready to frame Isabella.
Isabella looked at the document Lyanna handed over, then glanced at Michael.
Michael gave her a nod, and Isabella took the document.
"A vineyard?" Isabella was shocked. Scarlett's family was using a vineyard to apologize!
"Lyanna, this gift is too valuable. I can't accept it," Isabella quickly tried to hand the document back.
"You know it's valuable, so why won't you accept it? Quit being fake!" Scarlett snorted, thinking Isabella was just being hypocritical.
Lyanna turned to Scarlett angrily. "Shut up!"
Then she turned back to Isabella. "This is just a token of our sincerity. The vineyard isn't very large, and property prices here are quite reasonable, so it's not particularly valuable. It's just a gesture of apology. Please accept it."
Isabella had a good impression of Lyanna, but she still felt the vineyard was too much. She looked at Michael again.
Michael nodded and casually took the document. "A vineyard as an apology is quite nice. Since it's a gift from Lyanna, you should accept it."
Only then did Isabella agree to accept the document.
Lyanna let out a sigh of relief. Isabella accepting their apology meant the relationship between the two families could continue.
While Lyanna and Isabella were chatting, Scarlett stood up and said, "You guys chat. I'll go to the bathroom."
As she headed upstairs, Isabella instinctively pointed to the restroom on the first floor. "Isn't there one right here?"
Scarlett stopped in her tracks and looked coldly at Isabella. "Do you expect me to use the same bathroom as those servants? I'm not that lowly!"
With that, Scarlett continued upstairs, leaving Lyanna looking extremely embarrassed.
"I'm really sorry, Scarlett has been spoiled by me. I'll make sure to teach her a lesson later," Lyanna said with a bitter smile, cursing Scarlett in her mind.
After reaching the second floor, Scarlett didn't go to the bathroom but instead went to Michael and Isabella's room.
She quietly sneaked in and began to search through Isabella's suitcase.
It didn't take long for Scarlett to find a white suitcase. She remembered seeing Isabella carrying it when they picked her up from the airport.
Scarlett pulled a handkerchief from her pocket, then took out a bag of white powder from her handbag. She opened Isabella's suitcase and placed the bag of powder inside.
"No, if I just leave it like this, it will arouse suspicion," Scarlett muttered, frowning slightly. She took out a sharp little knife from her bag, cut open the lining of Isabella's suitcase, and slipped the bag of white powder into the slit.
'This time, I'm gonna watch you suffer firsthand,' Scarlett thought, a glint of malice flashing in her eyes.
