Chapter 65
Lawrence frowned and turned to look at her.
Only then did Winnie realize that this woman seemed to have called herself "Mrs. Rodriguez" earlier. She stared at Darcy, and Darcy, who was looking at her now, had a friendly smile in her eyes, with none of the provocation from the afternoon.
Winnie looked at the man suspiciously, "What's the relationship between you and Darcy?"
Darcy looked at Lawrence, blinking and smiling.
Lawrence glanced at Darcy and, after a barely noticeable pause, introduced her to Winnie, "She's like my sister!"
"Your sister?" Winnie raised her eyebrows, curious.
"Yes," the man replied indifferently.
Upon hearing his cold introduction, Darcy's expression froze, but she maintained a big smile, "Mrs. Rodriguez, I'm sorry. Today, I played along with Mr. Rodriguez to help him. I hope you don't misunderstand anything."
She appeared playful, harmless all over.
Winnie's almond eyes narrowed, and she smiled apologetically, "Sorry, Ms. Ordelia? He never mentioned you, so I don't know you."
Darcy smiled, "It's not worth mentioning. Mr. Rodriguez's heart is completely devoted to you."
"Alright." Although Lawrence frowned, his eyes towards Darcy carried a hint of amusement.
He said lightly, "Darcy, thank you for today."
"No problem, as long as I could help both of you." Darcy was obedient and added, "Mrs. Rodriguez, when you pushed me just now, I was worried about your baby. Are you okay?"
Winnie felt embarrassed upon hearing this and apologized, "I'm really sorry about earlier."
The man held onto her waist as he looked at her carefully, remarking, "Darcy only cared about protecting you just now. She fell to the ground while doing so. And you know how strong she is when she's all fierce? Pulling people's hair?"
Winnie's face turned red in embarrassment.
A compassionate smile appeared on Darcy's face. The man knew she was helping him, protecting Winnie's belly and caring for his child. She was understanding and sincere.
Everything was so perfect.
She smiled softly, "Alright, now that I've completed my mission, you two take care of each other!"
At that moment, the assistant outside suddenly knocked on the door, "Mr. Rodriguez, Ms. Clark came back from the hot springs and is having an asthma attack. You should come quickly and take a look!"
Lawrence quickly took Winnie's hand and, noticing her gaze, he smirked, "In the afternoon, I was at the hot springs with Mom. Darcy didn't even go in. Are you relieved now?"
Winnie felt a bit embarrassed, but she did feel slightly relieved in her heart.
Following the man out, it turned out that Melissa's room was right next door, so close that there was no chance for anything to happen between Lawrence and Darcy.
Upon entering the room, Winnie saw Melissa leaning on the sofa, clutching her chest, struggling to breathe. Her face was pale, with cold sweat on her forehead, and her lips were turning purple.
Winnie immediately approached her, touching Melissa's wrist, and deduced that she was lacking oxygen, her heart struggling to pump, already in a precarious condition.
She turned around to go back to her room to get her needle bag, she looked up and saw Lawrence. She remembered that she had once hidden from Lawrence the fact that she had studied medicine.
Hesitating for a few seconds, Darcy swiftly entered the room with a medicine chest, saying, "Make way, everyone."
The tense frown on Lawrence's face eased as he pulled Winnie aside and said, "Darcy, take good care of my mom."
"Mr. Rodriguez, I'm more anxious than you," Darcy smiled and quickly knelt down to examine Melissa's eyes and lips.
Then she took out a silver needle and medicine, immediately inserting them into Melissa.
Winnie observed the acupoints, all of them correct. She was astonished that Darcy knew traditional medicine too. She was quite skilled at it?
After a few needle insertions, Melissa's breathing became less labored, and she slowly opened her eyes.
"You're awake?" Darcy held Melissa's hand and smiled gently, "It's been a long time since I last saw you. Even after all these years, you still look young and beautiful!"
Melissa looked at Darcy for a while before smiling and asking, "Oh, Darcy, why are you here?"
"I'm on a business trip with Mr. Rodriguez today. Usually, I'm faithfully fulfilling my duties at the company."
"Don't ask so many questions. Darcy is saving you," Lawrence furrowed his brow slightly, reminding his mother.
Melissa pouted at her son but showed a faint polite smile towards Darcy, "Thank you, Darcy."
"It's the least I can do!" Darcy cheerfully reassured Melissa by patting her hand.
Winnie noticed that Melissa discreetly moved her hand away.
Melissa lifted her head and only then noticed Winnie. She immediately smiled, "Winnie! You've come to Hot Spring Resort too?"
"Yes, Mom. Didn't he tell you?" Winnie glanced at the man.
Melissa glared at her son and then beckoned, "Winnie, come here quickly. Has Lawrence taken you to eat?"
"Mom..." Winnie walked over with a smile.
Melissa pulled her to sit on the couch and spoke to her. Meanwhile, Darcy, who had been crouching in front of the couch, smiled and started packing her things after a while.
She didn't leave, maintaining a polite and listening demeanor, occasionally interjecting with a comment.
The elderly woman would answer her questions and also turn her head to talk to Winnie with a beaming smile.
Winnie found it a bit subtle. Darcy should be familiar with Melissa, right?
However, it seemed like Melissa preferred to talk to her rather than Darcy, with a gentle yet distant attitude.
As Winnie sneakily observed Darcy, she noticed her beauty and noble demeanor.
She possessed medical skills and was the vice president of the company; she was extraordinary. Winnie recalled this woman, who was Lawrence's "lover" in the afternoon but turned into sister at night.
But when Winnie thought of the time when she bought the sexy lingerie, and how she was teased and ordered to buy a set by Darcy, the shy expression on her face, even though it was a performance, seemed to have a hint of reality?
"You should rest and not talk so much tonight," Darcy gently reminded her.
"Okay, Darcy," Melissa agreed.
"Mr. Rodriguez, I'll rest and leave the dinner party now. I haven't finished negotiating with Mr. Brown," Darcy said.
Lawrence felt a slight apology and gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your hard work today, Darcy. It's all thanks to you when my mother suddenly fell ill."
Darcy patted her medical kit and smiled, "It's because of my exceptional medical skills. If there's any situation with Melissa, let me know immediately!"
Lawrence had his assistant escort her to the door.
Outside the door, Darcy tightly clenched her medical kit and could hear the old woman and Winnie laughing. She didn't like herself, never did.
If it weren't for Melissa's disapproval, Lawrence might have married her long ago, and Winnie wouldn't be here now.
She would never let Mr. Rodriguez find out that his mother didn't like her and the reasons behind it!
Lawrence quickly called in professional medical staff, and his mother's condition stabilized.
Winnie's stomach growled, but she was afraid the old woman would hear, so she immediately hid and covered her belly.
Lawrence looked at her childish behavior and smirked, "Mom, should I take her to eat?"
"Go on! Get out of my sight." Melissa deliberately said, as she was eager for the young couple to build their relationship.
Lawrence took Winnie downstairs, but instead of going to eat, he led her into a private spa courtyard.
