Chapter 390

At 4 am, Ray returned from a social engagement and, half drunk, pressed himself against Laura. They were in the midst of something...

Suddenly, Ray's phone rang loudly, and it was Darcy calling. Without hesitation, he answered. From the other end of the phone came a woman's weak and sobbing voice, "Ray, Mr. Rodriguez has misunderstood me. I beg you to protect me. This time, I really only have you to count on."

Ray paused, his heated gaze lingering on Laura beneath him. But without further delay, he immediately rolled off the bed.

Laura gazed emptily at the ceiling, a faint mocking smile playing on her lips, her gaze filled with coldness.

Ray hurriedly put on his shirt while soothing Darcy in a low voice.

Out of nowhere, Laura snatched the phone and threw it on the floor.

"What are you doing, Laura?" Ray's tall and masculine figure turned around, his cold features expressing a hint of anger.

Laura smirked. After all these years-first one year of marriage, then another three-she was truly exhausted. Trapped in Ray's downward spiral, she couldn't openly support Winnie. In many matters, she was not as capable as Olivia in stepping forward because when it came to anything related to Darcy, this dog Ray, would even defend that scheming bitch more than Lawrence.

At this moment, there was a chilling expression on Lawrence's face that seemed unmistakably demonic.

"Lawrence, what are you doing here?" Ray, sensing the cold intensity in his gaze, couldn't help but feel a twinge of unease himself.

"I don't want to waste words," Lawrence said directly and urged, "Darcy, hand her over."

"Lawrence, there must be a misunderstanding here. Darcy is so kind, she hasn't done anything wrong."

"Shut up." Lawrence ran out of patience and exclaimed, "Both you and I have been deceived by her. Do you know what she did to my mother?!"

"Isn't it merely your accusation that she abducted her?" Ray said helplessly, his gaze turning cold. "I also checked the hospital's surveillance footage with the police yesterday. It was evident that Darcy didn't leave her room at all. Plus, Madam Rodriguez was staying at Island Electronics Hospital, a place Darcy has never been to. How can she be suspected of kidnapping your mother?"

Lawrence gazed at Ray absentmindedly, sensing a peculiar familiarity and a twinge of regret, as if his past self resembled Ray in some way. Because Darcy's stance was always "innocent until proven guilty" and they adhered strictly to evidence and logic, they never once placed trust in Winnie.

Looking back now, every time he defended Darcy's reputation, he unintentionally hurt Winnie's feelings. A sinister glint flashed through his deep gaze, and he grew more resentful of himself. He spoke coldly, "Ray, it's time for both you and me to see through this woman. My mother said in person that Darcy had deliberately caused her kidney failure. So, stand aside! I need to find Darcy."

"Mr. Rodriguez, I didn't do it!" Darcy's fragile figure hid behind Ray, gripping his arm for support. She wouldn't admit it until the very end, especially since the police couldn't find any trace of her involvement in the kidnapping. Lawrence knew deep down that he couldn't do anything against her for the kidnapping.

"Ray, you have to believe me. Mr. Rodriguez has misunderstood me. What my godmother said may not be true. Is Mr. Rodriguez going to take me away now? Ray, please protect me," Darcy pleaded.

She shifted her tearful gaze to Ray, making Lawrence watch as she clung to Ray as her last hope. All along, Ray had always been under her control because of her pure appearance, but in reality, she was quite skilled at manipulating men.

As expected, Ray protected Darcy even more firmly, while Lawrence aimed his gun at Ray, tension filling the air.

Ray still refused to open the door. "Lawrence! Things haven't been clarified yet. I won't let you harm her. All of your accusations toward Darcy are baseless!"

Lawrence was losing his patience and threatened, "My mother's words are the evidence. I'm going to settle things with Darcy today! Will you step aside or not?"

"I won't step aside!"

Lawrence remained silent, coldly reaching for the gun at his waist, pressing it against Ray's body through the fence gate.

Darcy's face turned pale, unable to imagine that Lawrence would truly resort to violence. The coldness in the man's eyes at this moment was like a piercing dagger, seemingly devoid of hue, yet it sent shivers down Darcy's spine.

She had always been tolerant, affectionate, and nostalgic about their past. However, at that moment, she experienced a sudden change of heart that made her pulse race with fear. "Ray, how about you let me go? Mr. Rodriguez is pressuring you, and I'm afraid you'll get hurt."

"No! You're a weak woman, and I will protect you. Lawrence, if you have the courage to do it then just shoot!"

Laura rushed over and overheard Darcy intentionally saying disgusting things. Upon witnessing Ray's heroic appearance, she felt a pang of anguish, her heart throbbing as if being stabbed.

Just as Lawrence was about to pull the trigger, Laura quickly used the key to open the large iron gate of the Gu Mansion.
