Chapter 349
"West Iron Group?" When Winnie's footsteps became audible from behind, Lawrence didn't avoid the topic and simply put the call on speakerphone.
The voice from the other end of the line at the police station said, "Yes, Mr. Rodriguez. After investigating the identity of the kidnapper we captured, we found that he was not Mr. Mitchell's bodyguard from the auction company but a retired mercenary who had previously worked at West Iron Group in Trento City. This is currently the most promising lead.
"If it's convenient for you, Mr. Rodriguez, could you please come to the police station?" the police officer asked.
As the words of the police officer trailed off, Lawrence responded, affirming that he would be going to the police station. The situation seemed even more suspicious, and Lawrence was determined not to let the mastermind behind the kidnapping goes unpunished.
Without further delay, he glanced deeply at Winnie, whose expression was inscrutable, and knew that she was curious as well. "I'm going to the police station. If there's any update, I'll let you know."
"Mmm, Sidney can sleep here tonight." As Winnie spoke, she coldly opened the door, making it clear that she wanted him to leave. Lawrence pursed his lips, feeling somewhat frustrated. After giving her a few glances, he walked away calmly.
Winnie closed the door and pondered to herself, 'The West Iron Group in Trento City?' She was well aware that the kidnapping of Sidney and Oscar was a scheme orchestrated by Darcy. However, it remained unclear to her how the kidnapping could be connected to Trento City, a city which was located so far away. Additionally, she was curious about the owner of West Iron Group.
After a moment's thought, she sent the words "West Iron Group" to Rock. He had extensive connections in the Lymington business circle, so she hoped he could trace something.
Meanwhile, Sidney was having a heated argument with Oscar in the bedroom. "Oscar, stop mentioning Rock all the time. I know you're trying to provoke Dad, but I don't think that Rock is good."
Oscar frowned and chuckled, shaking his head. "Sidney, Rock has helped Mommy a lot for the past three years. It's just that you don't know."
"All I can see is that he's just trying to pursue Mommy, that's all." Sidney turned away and crossed his arms. "Doing things for his own purposes can't be called helping."
Oscar thought for a moment. "Anyway, you're favoring our jerk of a father. So, tell me, what's wrong with Rock?"
"My intuition is telling me that something is wrong with him," Sidney confidently replied. "He always wears a friendly smile on his face, and that kind of person often has ulterior motives. There was a confrontation between us in the kitchen a while ago, and I felt like he kind of knew that we were two kids!"
Oscar fell silent, his eyes widening in surprise. "Really?"
"My intuition is very accurate."
However, Oscar remembered distinctly that when Winnie later told Rock they were two brothers, he looked shocked. Oscar began to doubt whether Sidney's intuition was accurate or if Rock was genuinely clueless about there being two of them.
"What are you two arguing about?" Winnie heard the noise and walked over after finishing her call.
Sidney pouted, realizing that his mother currently trusted Rock, so he decided not to mention it until he found evidence of Rock's sinister motives. He didn't want Winnie to think he was intentionally speaking ill of Rock for Lawrence's sake.
Receiving Sidney's signal, Oscar also refrained from mentioning Rock and shifted the topic by looking up and saying, "We were talking about Dad's wedding next month." He looked into his mother's eyes, trying to test her. "Mommy, Dad is marrying a bad woman again. Do you mind? Will it make you sad?"
Winnie hesitated briefly, her eyes revealing a hint of vulnerability mixed with a touch of coldness. She pretended to be indifferent and said, "Why does it matter? I've divorced him. I won't be heartbroken anymore. Darcy deserves someone like him."
Hearing this, Sidney felt devastated and hung his head low. Meanwhile, Oscar sighed inwardly. It was all their despicable father's doing, and he still hadn't learned his lesson.
"But Mommy, weren't you planning to seek revenge on my despicable father? Can you really just watch them go through with this wedding? Sidney will have a miserable future with Darcy."
Winnie tightened her grip on Sidney's hand. The thought of revenge had never left her. This time, the Ordelia family had suffered a great setback, but Darcy managed to save herself, and she somehow managed to get Lawrence to hold the wedding as planned. However, whether the wedding would go smoothly was another question altogether.
Winnie would never accept Darcy. She smirked coldly and pursed her lips. Regrettably, Madam Rodriguez remained in a prolonged vegetative state, and the truth was concealed within her. Consequently, the ongoing kidnapping case emerged as the pivotal factor in unveiling Darcy's culpability.
"But Mommy, we also have good news to tell you." Oscar brought her thoughts back.
"What good news could you two have?" Winnie asked.
Sidney happily responded, "The good news about Grandma Rodriguez's persistent vegetative state. When Oscar and I swapped places, we secretly delivered the new medicine you developed to the mansion. I gave it to Taylor, and Grandma Rodriguez has been taking it secretly for almost a month now!"
"What?" Winnie was shocked. She had been so busy lately that she had forgotten about trying to contact Taylor.
"Oh, Oscar, you mentioned Grandma moving her hand last time, didn't you?"
"Yes!" Oscar chimed in, his face filled with joy. "But Dad and Darcy don't know about it. Taylor said we should keep it a secret. Even the doctors who came to check on her didn't notice anything, but sometimes when I visit her, I can see that her fingers look healthier."
Winnie analyzed the effects of the medication, a hint of comfort evident on her face. Perhaps, at some unforeseen moment, Madam Rodriguez would suddenly awake. But the exact date was unpredictable. Luckily, three years of persistent vegetative state had been enough to make Darcy let down her guard.
Taking a deep breath, Winnie saw a glimmer of hope. Lawrence, that bastard, would eventually learn the truth about the fake kidney donation that Darcy had orchestrated.
Late at night, Lawrence personally confronted the severed limb kidnapper in the police station's interrogation room. Employing certain methods, Lawrence coerced the kidnapper into confessing. The kidnapper revealed that he was hired by Mars, the CEO of West Iron Group.
"Chief, I hope the news of the kidnappers being caught is kept confidential," Lawrence instructed.
In order to expose the person behind the kidnapping, it was necessary to cover up the news. The police chief nodded in understanding.
Lawrence left the police station and didn't return to his villa estate, but instead went to Island Electronics Group.
In the quiet office, he stood by the floor-to-ceiling window. Within ten minutes, Bryan brought Mars's information to Lawrence. Lawrence pursed his lips and looked at it. He had some impression of Mars, knowing him to be the adopted son of his uncle, Bob. Lawrence had heard that Bob highly valued Mars' upbringing, but that was the extent of his knowledge.
He had no interest in the Rodriguez family of Trento City, only knowing that Bob was in charge and they were a powerful force in the country. However, he couldn't fathom why would Mars, who had nothing to do with him, find someone to kidnap his son.
Lawrence was a very keen person, with a sharp sense of insight. He instructed Bryan, "Find out where this Mars has been recently? What is his purpose? I want to meet him." Lawrence's gaze grew cold as his mind raced in different directions. He harbored certain thoughts, but no one had stepped forward to reveal the hidden truths between him and Bob.
The sudden appearance of Mars had redirected Lawrence's self-doubts about his origins into a curious path. Kidnapping his son merely to win favor seemed excessively extreme. As Lawrence tapped his desk, he pondered the possibility of additional conspirators in the kidnapping case, sinking into contemplation.
